Standards of Service: did you know?

Library staff work towards service standards to make sure that we provide our customers with the best possible service:

  • Did you know that we acknowledge all written enquiries within 1 working day and provide an initial or full response within 3 working days?
  • Did you know that on average we serve our users within 3 seconds of arrival at a library service point (during staffed hours) and that phone calls are answered within 14 seconds?
  • Did you know that 98% of our customers find our library staff helpful and friendly and that 99% of our customers find library staff knowledgeable?
  • Did you know that 100% of our users who attend library training sessions rate the staff who deliver training as helpful, friendly and knowledgeable?

If you have any thoughts on our service performance – or on any other aspect of the library service – we would love to hear from you. Please use our feedback form to share your comments, enquiries or complaints.

12 months until RefWorks is cancelled

Hourglass, Duration, Temporal Distance, Egg Timer

Time is running out!

The new year marks the start of the final 12 months of the Library’s RefWorks subscription.

At the end of December 2020, Queen’s users will no longer have access to Legacy RefWorks or ProQuest RefWorks, and the Library will no longer support the use of either of these tools.

The McClay Library Expansion Project – December 2019 Update

This is the final in a series of regular updates to keep you informed on progress of the McClay Library Phase 3 expansion project.

This project delivers a significant number of additional PCs and study seats in the library and many of these are now in place:

  • The courtyard area on the ground floor provides over 100 PCs and 9 additional study rooms (individual and group)
  • The student lounge on the ground floor has been doubled in size
  • Additional study seats and PCs have been added to floors 1 and 3
  • A new group study room has opened on floor 1

The project is nearing completion with outstanding work in the following areas:

Special Collections

Work on the extension to the Special Collections store is ongoing with access via staircase 1 and the Special Collections Reading Room. As a result, readers consulting Special Collections are currently being relocated to the Special Collections Seminar Room.

Ground floor atrium area

A new silent study room with 67 seats is being created at the bottom of the atrium (opening December 2019)

While we do our utmost to minimise disruption (and particularly disruptive work will be completed out of hours or carried out as early in the morning as possible), please note that this is a major building project so there may be some background noise.

If you have any particular feedback or questions, please contact: library@qub.ac.uk

My Library, My Space

With a 218% rise in students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) enrolling at QUB over the last 5 years, the Library needs to be a welcoming environment for them and asking some students to make a film about the most important elements of the Library for them seemed to be a good start. ‘My Library, My Space’ was a collaborative project between Library Services, Video Production and Disability Services, working together to facilitate the making of the film. More importantly, it was a student-led project, as four students decided topics to cover and either acted or filmed the whole process. The result is a very natural and engaging introduction to the Library which will benefit both current and potential students whether they have ASD or not.

Check out the video here.

And here is the crew after the wrap party!
