Queen’s University Belfast APC expenditure for 2019 – 2020

The Library’s Open Access Team has published, on behalf of the University, an Article Processing Charges (APCs) expenditure report for the period April 2019 to March 2020.

During this period a total of 212 articles were made immediately open access via the gold route at a cost of £236,822 (excluding other publication costs).

Points of interest:

  • ‘Hybrid’ APCs remain considerably more expensive than APCs paid to fully open access journals.
  • 76% of APCs paid during the period where made to fully open access journals
  • The most expensive APC (£4,750) was paid to the ‘hybrid’ journal ACS pharmacology and translational science
