Adding a Journal to Your Article in Pure: Best Practice Guidelines

When creating a record for a journal article in Pure it’s important to link it to a journal. Before creating a new journal entry for your Pure record check to see if the title already exists:

  • In the Pure record Click add journal
  • Make sure the search tab is selected

Journal 6

If multiple entries exist choose the most complete one:

  • this is often, but not always, the first in the list,
  • make sure it has no abbreviated words
  • each word starts with a capital letter, except and, or, of etc.

Journal 4

Journal 5

If the Journal is not in the list then create a new entry.

To create a new entry:

  • In the Pure record Click add Journal
  • Make sure the create new tab is selected

Journal 2

Ulrichsweb is an easy to search source of detailed information on more than 300,000 journals. You can search this database to help you fill in the relevant details.

Complete the Journal title as it appears on the website or in Ulrichsweb:

  • Don’t use abbreviations
  • each word starts with a capital letter, except and, or, of etc.
  • Don’t include any article details into the title
  • Include the ISSNs using the following format – xxxx-xxxx
  • Click on create

If you have any queries or need further assistance in creating or editing journal entries please contact the Open Access Team who is always here to help. There is also lots of information on our LibGuide or you can follow us on twitter.

Queen’s University Belfast Submits RCUK Open Access Compliance Report 2014/15

The Library’s Open Access Team has submitted, on behalf of the University, an open access compliance report for 2014/15 to the RCUK.

Queen’s is one of 108 UK research organisations to receive an annual open access block grant from the RCUK. This grant aims to support universities in meeting the requirements of the RCUK Policy of Open Access, in particular meeting the cost of article processing charges (APC) to make articles open access through the publisher.

During the period the Open Access Team recorded a total of 229 Queen’s publications that have arisen from RCUK funding. A combination of green and gold open access resulted in 112 papers meeting RCUK policy, giving Queen’s an overall compliance rating of 49%.

A total APC spend of £56,892 enabled 36 RCUK funded articles to be made open access through a number of publishers. A further £72,161 was spent on publisher discounts and membership schemes.

The full report can be viewed on Queen’s Research Portal.

If your paper has received RCUK funding or you would like further information on the RCUK policy, check out our Open Access LibGuide or email openaccess@qub.ac.uk. The RCUK Block Grant for 2015/16 is allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Collaboration is good – International OA Week at QUB

OA international header

Last week was International Open Access Week. The theme was collaboration, which highlighted the importance and need for sharing research and information across the world. The Library’s Open Access Team organised a series of sessions including: What is Open Access?, How to Comply with HEFCE’s Open Access Policy for the REF, and Copyright and Licensing for Researchers.  Thank you to all those who attended, we hope you found it useful, and congratulations to the lucky winners of the Amazon vouchers.

If you would like to download the presentations from any of the events or are interested in further training, please click here. If you would like to get some Top Tips for using Pure, please drop us an email at openaccess@qub.ac.uk

We had a great turn out at the sessions and the responses from participants were very positive. The team are here to help and are keen to engage with researchers about Open Access.

We have just launched our Open Access QUB Twitter account and we hope that you will join the conversation on open access topics, share your research successes with us and communicate with your fellow researchers.
