Charity Open Access Fund to end on 30 September 2020

The Charity Open Access Fund (COAF) is a partnership between six health research charities:  Versus Arthritis, Blood Cancer UK, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, Parkinson’s UK and the Wellcome Trust.

Queen’s is one of 36 UK universities and research institutes that receives an annual open access block grant allocation to meet the cost of article processing charges (APC’s) for research articles.

COAF relies on all partners sharing a common open access (OA) policy. This will no longer be the case from January 2021 when the Wellcome Trust implements its Plan S-aligned OA policy. Consequently, COAF will end on 30 September 2020.

The remaining five health research charities remain committed to open access and will continue to fund open access costs [PDF 68KB] for the researchers they support post September 2020.
