The Library’s Open Access Team has published, on behalf of the University, an Article Processing Charges (APCs) expenditure report for the period April 2018 to March 2019.
During this period, a total of 172 articles (excluding articles published via the Springer Compact Agreement) were made immediately open access via the gold route at a cost of £271,017.25.
Points of interest:
- ‘Hybrid’ APCs remain considerably more expensive than APCs paid to fully open access journals.
- 63% of APCs paid during the period where made to fully open access journals
- The most expensive APC (£4,749) was paid to the ‘hybrid’ journal Clinical Cancer Research
