Studying American and contemporary literature and culture at Queen’s means participating in a thriving academic community. Our new Centre for the Americas is an interdisciplinary hub of research innovation, bringing together scholars working in the fields of U.S., Canadian, Caribbean, and Latin American Studies from backgrounds in literature, visual culture, the creative arts, languages and translation, history, philosophy, politics, and international relations.
The English Literary Studies MA pathway offers students the chance to explore an exciting and diverse range of cultural texts from the modern to the contemporary period. The pathway invites students to engage critically with various cultural, theoretical, historical and thematic approaches to fiction, poems, criticism, films, graphic novels, art, photography, and television shows.
Many of our students go on to research at doctorate level with us, benefitting from the expertise of internationally known scholars in the field, as well as from a vibrant intellectual environment that involves regular and diverse readings, seminars, lectures, workshops, symposia and public engagement events.
