Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Language Week)

Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Language Week) is a two-week festival celebrating Irish language and culture. The first Seachtain na Gaeilge was held 122 years ago. Each year since, the festival has started on St. David’s Day on 1 March and ran until St Patrick’s Day on 17 March.

The celebrations are open to everyone, from Irish language aficionados to curious minds hearing about the festival for the very first time.

Here’s how you can get involved:

Enter the world of Naomhóg racing with Tarrac, an Irish Language drama set on the stunning coastlines of Kerry. The film follows a group of female rowers who take on a high stakes Naomhóg rowing competition. The screening is being held by the QUB Language Centre team at QFT on Wednesday 6 March at 2.30pm. Test Your Knowledge at an Irish Language Quiz

How do you fancy winning an Air fryer, a George Foreman or an One for All gift card? They’re just a handful of the prizes up for grabs at the Irish Language Quiz. Hosted by An Cumann Gaelach in collaboration with the SU, the quiz will test your knowledge and you may even pick up a phrase or two. Ádh Mór!

Run…in Irish

The Language Centre at Queen’s is teaming up with Queen’s Campus Run for a walk/run in Irish. You can choose your pace and distance. The event will take place Wednesday 13 March between 1pm – 2pm.  Register here.
