University Life is About More Than Your Degree

The course that you have chosen is massively important- it’s your chance to study something that you are passionate about surrounded by likeminded individuals, which will set you on the path towards your future career.

But it’s important to remember it’s not the only part of your university life – there’s loads of ways to get the most of your time at university beyond your degree…

1. Get Involved with an SU Club or Society

With over 25,000 students at Queen’s, why limit yourself to just meeting the ones on your course?

We have 220 Clubs and Societies and you can join them any time of the year- giving you the perfect opportunity to meet new people, learn something new or continue a hobby you love! Find out more about our SU Clubs & Societies here

Don’t see anything you fancy? Find out more about starting a new Club or Society here

2. Explore Belfast and Beyond

Whether you’ve lived here your whole life, or you are experiencing life in Belfast for the first time… there’s always new things to explore! From world-class attractions like the Titanic Belfast to historic landmarks (looking at you Queen’s Lanyon Building), or museums like the Ulster Museum (it’s free and conveniently located close to campus).

Belfast is perfectly positioned for trips up the north coast to the Giant’s Causeway and other road trips beyond the city!

3. Attend an Event at the Union

There’s always something happening at your Union- from Freshers’ Fair to wellbeing events, networking socials to gigs at Mandela Hall (oh how we missed you Mandela), we have plenty of ways for you to blow off steam after an intense study session at the McClay!

Check out upcoming events on our website for up-to-date info on what’s happening in the SU at One Elmwood.

4. Build Your CV with SU Enterprise, SU Voice and SU Volunteer!

Here at the Union, we want to give you every chance to learn something new and build your skills.

Maybe you’ve a business idea you would like to explore further with SU Enterprise, or you want to get involved with fundraising for a local charity or conservation in local urban areas with SU Volunteer.

There are even opportunities within SU Voice to make change by getting involved in student campaigns or by becoming a student rep!

Our friendly SU Staff and Student Officers are always here to help, so if you ever want to know more just get in touch

5. Head to The Union Bar and Rooftop Terrace

Located on the third floor of the Students’ Union at One Elmwood, The Union Bar and Rooftop Terrance has free nightly events that all students will enjoy!

Why not grab some friends and test your knowledge in the Big Quiz or Mid-Week music quiz, or if you want a laugh why not take part in Trash Bingo- it’s Bingo, but with a twist! There’s also some great (and some not so great) prizes up for grabs!

Or maybe you just want to chill out and relax with a cold pint- don’t worry, the Union Bar has got that covered too!
