Your Halloween Guide 2025

October is upon us, which means it is officially Spooky Season in Belfast! Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or prefer a more chilled experience, Belfast has something for everyone during Halloween.

Here’s your guide to the best spooky events and activities happening around your Union and Belfast this Halloween season:

Get crafty at the Students’ Union

Halloween is the perfect season to get (witch)crafty.

On Wed 22 Oct, join us in the SU Lounge from 12-1pm for Spooky Climate Café for crafts, and the spookiest stories of all- climate myths!

We are hosting a free pumpkin painting afternoon in the SU Drawing Room on the building’s second floor from 2-4pm on Wed 22 Oct. There will be lots of healthy treats on offer to help you embrace your spooky spirit in a balanced, feel-good way!

Our SU Creative Hour will also feature some spooky crafts on Thurs Oct 30. Between 1-2pm, you can craft creepy, cute and creative pieces to take home; complete with some sweet treats!

Get into the Halloween spirit, de-stress, and create something frightful or fun!

Costume Inspo & Scary Socials

On Mon 20 Oct, from 1-2pm head to the Swap Shop for refreshments, snacks and the chance to pick up some spooky decorations and get some spine-tingling ideas for your Halloween costume from our Handy Helper student volunteers.

Our Sunday Social is also getting into the Halloween spirit on Sun 26 Oct from 1-5pm. Join us for a horrifying scavenger hunt, pumpkin patches, scary movies and more!

Paranormal Tours & Spooky Ghost Stories

Get ready for spine-tingling tales as you explore the history of Belfast.

Crumlin Road Gaol is one of Belfast’s most iconic attractions. Step inside, if you dare! The Jail of Horror invites you to step inside the Victorian Jail and face your fears on an intense scare-after-scare journey.

Or maybe you’d prefer something more lowkey? Why not lose yourself in a spooky, spine-tingling tale! Kicking off on October 2nd, Frights by Candlelight invites you to step into the eerie glow of flickering candles and listen to some haunting tales.

Haunting Bars & Halloween Parties

For those looking to party, Mandela Hall will be transformed into a Halloween headbanging ball, for Belfast’s biggest rock and metal Halloween night! Expect massive rock and metal riffs, Halloween classics, and a strongly encouraged fancy dress code! Be sure to get your tickets before they sell out!

The Union Bar is also getting a spooky makeover! Join us in your favourite spot in Belfast for our free Halloween events, including Union Scary-oke on October 30th for a night of spooky singalongs, and the Demand Less Halloween Ball on October 31st for an evening of fancy dress and frightfully good drink deals!

Fright Night at The Jungle

If you’re a thrill seeker looking for some serious scares and up for a bit of a road trip, then check out The Jungle in Moneymore for their infamous Fright Night!

Wander through terrifying scare mazes, meet twisted characters, and get lost in haunted forests. This immersive horror experience is designed to push your limits and give you the fright of your life.

Halloween Drive-In

Let’s Go Hydro’s Drive-In Cinema experience is back this Halloween.

Immerse yourself in a lineup of Halloween classics, all from the comfort of your car. Whether you’re a horror buff or just in it for the popcorn, this is one Halloween event you won’t want to ghost!

Some Final Tips

Remember, the spookiest part of your Halloween experience should be your costume, some final things to consider are:

  • Book ahead: Many Halloween events, especially the haunted tours and Fright Night, sell out quickly. Secure your spot early to avoid disappointment.
  • Stay safe: When possible, stick to well-lit areas if you’re exploring at night, and remember to travel in groups, especially if you’re heading to any late-night events.
  • If you’re drinking: Remember to carb load before your night out and to stay hydrated. Keep an eye on your drink and never accept one from someone you don’t know.
  • Stick together: Go out with friends and make sure no one is left behind. Keep an eye on each other and agree on a meeting point if you get separated.
  • Plan your journey home: It’s a busy time of year so pre-book your transport or know your route home before you head out.
  • Keep your phone charged: Make sure your phone is fully charged before you go out so you can stay connected with your group.

Happy Hauntings!
