Get to Know Your QUB Assistive Tech Tools
🛠️ What’s Available at Queen’s?
At Queen’s, we offer a range of licensed assistive technology tools to support your learning. Whether you need help with reading, writing, maths, planning, or staying focused, these tools are free to use for all students and staff.
Scholarcy, Mindview and Genio can be requested through the Assistive Technology Coordinator following a short training session and are allocated on a short-term basis. You can book a session here.
Read&Write and Equatio are available on campus computers and can also be accessed remotely via the QUB Student Desktop (QSD). Below, you’ll find a quick guide to our these tools – what they do, who they’re great for, and how to get started.

Genio
- What it does: Genio is an AI-powered notetaking tool designed to help you capture, organise and make sense of lectures, meetings, or any learning session.
- Great for: Students who want to focus on listening while lectures are automatically recorded, transcribed, and organised into structured notes.
- How to access: QUB has a limited number of Genio licences available for students who would benefit from additional notetaking support. These can be requested through the Assistive Technology Coordinator following a short training session. Licences are allocated on a short-term basis and may be recalled if not in use.

Scholarcy
- What it does: Scholarcy is an AI-powered research companion that takes long, complex journal articles, reports, or papers and creates concise, easy-to-digest summaries. It highlights the key points, pulls out figures, and even generates reference summaries so you can quickly decide whether an article is useful for your research.
- Great for: Students who want to save time and build confidence by quickly identifying the key arguments, methods, and findings in complex academic papers.
- How to access: QUB has a limited number of Scholarcy licences available for students who would benefit from additional notetaking support. These can be requested through the Assistive Technology Coordinator following a short training session. Licences are allocated on a short-term basis and may be recalled if not in use.

Read&Write
- What it does: Offers text-to-speech, speech-to-text, dictionary, highlighting, and more – all in one toolbar.
- Great for: Reading support, dyslexia, writing help, and productivity.
- How to access: Read&Write is now available by default on all QUB-managed computers and browsers (Chrome and Edge) — just look for the purple Read&Write puzzle-piece icon in your browser toolbar. Students can also download the Read&Write extension for Chrome or Edge on their own devices. To unlock the full version, simply sign in with your QUB email address and password via Microsoft login.

EquatIO
- What it does: Helps you create and interact with digital maths and science content using your voice, handwriting, or keyboard.
- Great for: STEM students, equation input, visual learners, and making maths more accessible.

- How to access: EquatIO is now available by default on all QUB-managed computers and browsers (Chrome and Edge) — just look for the blue EquatIO diamond icon in your browser toolbar. Students can also download the EquatIO extension for Chrome on their own devices. To unlock the full version, simply sign in with your QUB email address and password via Microsoft login.

MindView
- What it does: A powerful mind-mapping tool for planning essays, managing projects, and organising ideas visually.
- Great for: Visual thinkers, project planning, managing workload, and improving focus.
- How to access: A MindView licence can be requested through the Assistive Technology Coordinator following a short training session. Licences are allocated on a short-term basis and may be recalled if not in use.
