Putting Macs On To The Active Directory

Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on Active Directory

 

Get Mac connected to network

Setup DNS as Below

Go to System Preferences

Accounts

Padlock to unlock changes

Login Options

Network Account Server

Join

Type in ads.qub.ac.uk

Ok

Client Computer Id: Computer name on AD (should have qubid number)

Ad username and password of account with permissions to add computers to AD

Press OK

With a bit of luck that should connect to the AD

 

I got an error doing this. Error was code was 100001 encounter a problem connecting to server.

Got round it by

 

Press Open Directory Utility

Padlock to unlock changes

Tick Active Directory

Double click Active Directory to go into settings

Active Directory domain set to ads.qub.ac.uk

Computer ID is the Computer name

Press Bind

Type in username and password of account with permissions to add computer to AD

Press ok to join domain.

 

 

There is an issue with network drives not appearing correctly. It is working fine in the McClay but not in the SU on a computer we have tried it on. The fix was to upgrade the computer to Mavericks.
