Bios Flash On HP Pavilion DV5 Failed To Work

Bios Flash Failed

I was working on a laptop and had finished all updates.  The last thing to do was to flash the BIOS to get it up-to-date.  I ran the windows BIOS flash utility and the laptop hung on me, after an hour I turned it off and when turning it on again all ligts came on but nothing on the screen, the laptop would not boot (the common term is bricked).

The fix was as follows for the HP laptop:-

  1. Go to the relevant manufactures website and download the original BIOS.
  2. Extract the files from the executable and rename the .fd to bin and re-name the file to the relevant BIOS number eg. 3603.bin.
  3. Copy the 3603.bin to a USB pen (formatted as FAT32) and place it into the USB slot on the laptop.
  4. While holding down the windows key and B, press the power button until you hear a beep.
  5. Release the keys and let the laptop carry on. It will make more beeps and after 1 minute if the recovery was successful shut down.
  6. Now restart the laptop and the HP logo should appear and it should start up as normal.
