ABOUT ‘Dance biographies’

‘Dance biographies’, edited by Sarah McCleave (Queen’s University Belfast), is part of her ‘Fame and the Female Dancer’ project, funded by the Leverhulme Foundation (awarded 2019). The aim of the blog is to explore the development and promotion of the careers of female theatrical dancers flourishing between 1680 and 1860. The first posts (November 2020-January 2021) serve as a ‘call for contributors’ and nominate subjects and images of particular interest. The editor (s.mccleave@qub.ac.uk) is open to proposals for additional subjects. This blog is supported by a Consulting Editorial Board with the following members: Professor Michael Burden (Dean, New College Oxford); Keith Cavers (Director, Pimpernel Prints); and Jennifer Thorp (Archivist, New College Oxford).
