AFBI Library Training Programme September 2022 to January 2023

Training is available to all AFBI Library users in the form of the training programme outlined below.  Click on the links to make a booking.

In addition, we can provide individual or small group training covering search strategies, using databases, bibliometrics and EndNote. We can help you to set up current awareness email alerts to keep you up to date with published research in your field of interest. We also welcome any queries you may have on copyright and Open Access.

Introduction to the Library (30 mins)

Delivered via WebEx, this session is ideal for new AFBI staff and students. Register for this event and:

  • Meet with AFBI Library staff
  • Find out more about AFBI Library and how we can help your research
  • Learn how to navigate the AFBI Library website
  • Take a look at how to find books, journals and articles via the Library catalogue and Article Search
  • Get a comprehensive overview of the Library’s key resources and services

Introduction to EndNote

Delivered in-person and via WebEx, this course is suitable for new EndNote users or for those who would like a refresher on using EndNote to support their research output.

Course content includes:

  • Creating and backing up an EndNote library
  • Creating and importing new references from a range of resources relevant to Biological Sciences
  • Organising your references and managing your library
  • Using EndNote’s Cite While You Write plugin to automatically create citations and bibliographies within Word
  • Working with referencing styles
  • EndNote Online/Syncing/Sharing

Finding Literature using Web of Science

Delivered in-person or via WebEx, this session follows covers the following:

  • Creating a literature search strategy
  • Applying your search strategy to the Web of Science database
  • Utilising bibliometrics and cited references
  • Saving your search and setting alerts
  • Exporting results to EndNote

Delivered in-person or via WebEx, this session covers key tools and resources available that can assist your research:

  • Finding journal quartiles
  • Open Access options
  • Tools to help you publish
  • Incites research benchmarking tool
