Special Collections is pleased to announce that the Alderdice Photograph Collection (MS 88/1) is now available for consultation.

These photographs and albums are the first section of the Alderdice Collection (MS 88) that has been made available. The collection, which is a part of the Modern Political Collections project, is a donation of personal papers from Lord John Alderdice, former Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly and leader of the Alliance Party Northern Ireland. The collection offers unique insight into Lord Alderdice’s significant contribution to liberal politics, human rights, and conflict resolution both in Northern Ireland and at an international level.

The Alderdice Photograph Collection is comprised of five hundred and twenty-three photographs and fifty-seven photographic negatives. The photographs depict key politicians, heads of state, events and moments of cultural, social, and political significance leading up to the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. They illustrate the international focus of Lord Alderdice’s work during the Northern Ireland Peace Process, during which he made frequent visits to the White House to advance US and NI relations.

A full listing of the Alderdice Collection can be found on the Special Collections webpages.

The collection can be consulted by appointment at Special Collections. Please contact us to arrange consultation.
