Reasons Why You Should Become a Content Creator for Queen’s Students’ Union

Being a Content Creator for Queen’s Students’ Union isn’t just a fun title to add to your CV, it’s a hands-on, creative internship that gives you valuable experience in digital marketing, content creation and event promotion, all while having a lot of fun along the way.

Gain Experience Working on Major Campaigns

From day one, you’ll be right in the middle of the action. You’ll help bring Freshers’ Week to life online, cover the buzz of SU Elections and capture the glitz and glamour of the SU Awards. These events might feel big at first, but don’t worry because the amazing marketing team are there to support you throughout the journey.

You’ll quickly learn how to capture the best moments, choose content formats that actually engage students and edit everything to fit the tone of each campaign.

You’ll Learn All About the Union

One of the best things about this internship is getting a behind-the-scenes look at how the Union supports students. From promoting volunteering opportunities like Handy Helpers to highlighting the services of the team in Advice, you’ll learn about everything the SU offers.

You’ll also work closely with the elected Student Officers, which helps develop your communication and time management skills as you balance their schedules alongside your own. You’ll often be given creative briefs for key campaigns and events which is great practice for working in any marketing or media-related role in the future.

You Can Build on Your Creative Flare

This is where things get really fun. You’re encouraged to bring your own ideas to every campaign. Whether it’s coming up with quirky video concepts, writing funny captions or experimenting with trending audio on TikTok, your creativity is always valued.

Some of my most memorable content included dressing skeletons around campus, taking life size dinosaurs to an arcade and having a cinema night with Shrek and Donkey.

You also learn how to adapt when things don’t go as planned such as it raining on an outdoor filming day or when a key person can’t make it for a video anymore. The role teaches you how to think on your feet and still deliver servable content.

Gain Valuable Writing Experience

This internship also gives you the chance to write blogs (like this one!) on a variety of topics, from recap articles to activity planning. It’s a great way to develop your tone of voice, learn how to write for different audiences, and create content that’s both informative and engaging.

Improve Your Teamwork and Communication Skills

This internship involves working with a wide range of people such as your marketing mentor, student officers, graphic designers, other Union departments and even other students featured in your content. You’ll build skills in collaboration, communication and coordination which all essential for any future job.

Develop Real Marketing Skills

As a Content Creator, you’ll also get hands-on experience with the tools and platforms professionals actually use. You’ll create videos using CapCut, schedule and manage posts using Hootsuite and help draft mailers through platforms like Mailchimp. You’ll also upload blogs and content to the SU website via WordPress.

On top of that, you’ll learn how to read and respond to analytics, figure out the optimal times to post, what kind of content performs best and how to adapt your strategy based on real results. These are all skills that will give you a head start if you’re thinking about a career in media, marketing and many others.

This internship is more than just a role, it’s a chance to grow your confidence, creativity, and skill set, all while making campus life more engaging for other students. If you’re thinking about applying, go for it! You’ll gain experience that’s genuinely useful, meet some brilliant people and most importantly you’ll have a great time doing it.
