Head of School

Research matters!
If we want to create a more just society we need high quality social science research to help us to know what is really going to work to help support the most disadvantages in society, improve our justice system, and support policy. For this reason research stands alongside teaching at the heart of what we do as a school.
That is why research infuses our teaching, but also why we value the research that you, our students, do during your time with us. The Social Sciences Student Journal is a great way of highlighting and showcasing this research, and the success of the journal is a testament to all the exciting research being done in the school.
Today the journal celebrates its fifth anniversary, no small feat especially coming through the difficult times of covid, and I would like to congratulate everyone involved from the start for this. The journal has been a great initiative, and personally I have learnt a lot from reading the articles in the journal (as an education researcher I have a lot to learn about areas like Criminology!), and I look forward to reading the articles in this issue.
I would like to thank Kelly Razey for her excellent work as editor, and welcome Saffy Barker, who will be taking over the editorship. Here’s to many more years of success for the journal!
Many thanks
