Regular users of MD Consult will already be aware of the great collection of electronic texts available through the database.  These have now been added to the library catalogue so they will be easier to access and pick up when searching for a particular text.  The books available cover a range of specialities and are usually up-to-date and the most current edition.  Examples include:

    • Miller’s Anesthesia (7th edition)
    • Braunwald’s Heart Disease (8th edition)
    • William’s textbook of endocrinology (11th edition)
    • Hematology (by Hoffman – 5th edition)
    • Ophthalmology (by Yanoff – 3rd edition)
    • Robbins and Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease (8th edition)
    • Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics (18th edition)

You can use any of the titles by accessing MD Consult directly through Honni e-lib or by searching in the library catalogue for a specific item and clicking on the Honniconnect button once located.  You will need your library username and password to access MD Consult.

  • MDConsult journals in Internet Explorer

The following problem was resolved in September 2009.

If you are using version 8 of Internet Explorer (IE) you may find that you get an error message when you try to connect to an MDConsult journal through honni e-Lib.  The message displayed on screen is:

‘Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage’

The problem is due to an incompatability with this newest version of IE.  Until it is resolved please note that the error message disappears if the page is simply refreshed.  Alternatively, you may use Firefox as your browser of choice.

  • Full text button temporarily removed

This problem was resolved on 3/11/2009.

There is currently a problem with the full text button in honni e-Lib.  The button is supposed to appear beside articles for which full text is available through honni but, because of the ongoing problem, it has been appearing where it shouldn’t and not appearing where it should.  The software suppliers are investigating the problem.  Meanwhile we have temporarily removed the button to avoid incorrect information being provided.

Until the problem is fixed it will therefore be necessary to click the honniConnect button in order to see if an article is available in full text.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.  As soon as the problem is resolved we will restore the button and update this information.

  • Making best use of clinical radiology services (eMBUR)

The sixth edition of the referral guidelines produced by the Royal College of Radiologists is now available electronically on honni.  To access the guidelines search the honni catalogue for the title.  Select the catalogue entry with the e symbol beside the title. Then use the honniconnect button to link to the online version, using your borrower number and password to log in.

There is currently a technical problem with our online requesting service, so you may not be able to request items online in the normal way.  Until the problem is resolved please contact the relevant library where staff will be able to assist you in getting copies of pertinent articles.

When the problem is resolved we will post a notification on this page.

The new package also provides more extensive coverage of back issues of these titles.
Use the A-Z list of e-journals on the HONNI site to access a specific title.

  • Ebrary electronic books in the Catalogue

4th March 2010: The following problem has now been resolved.

There is currently a problem accessing electronic books from ebrary in the library catalogue.  Having located an ebrary electronic book, a ‘Page not found’ error message is displayed when you click GO from the honniConnect menu. This is due to a recent change in the ebrary subscription which requires the catalogue entries to be re-configured – a process which may take some time to complete.

However, you can still access ebrary from the honni A-Z list of Databases.  Just click on the ebrary link in the A-Z list to connect directly to the database.  You can then search for the specific title of interest, or look for other relevant material.  Note that, as with other electronic resources, you need to be logged in to honni before you can access e-books.

  • New electronic journal for honni

The journal Stroke has recently been added to the honni A-Z list of electronic journals.  Full text e-access is available for articles from 1970 to current.  To access the journal, please log in to honni e-lib and type in the title of the journal in the Find e-journal section.
