My day-to-day role\u00a0includes working with key stakeholders &#8211; senior\u00a0people in health and social care including boards,\u00a0public health interests, the five Health and Social\u00a0Care Trusts, media, senior members of staff in\u00a0department of health and politicians and civil\u00a0servants. I also work cooperatively with other\u00a0health charities within NI, working together to create\u00a0the best possible service within NI.<\/p>\n<p><b>How would having a degree in arts and humanities help with achieving a job in the charity sector? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Being educated to degree level you learn <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">skills of analysis and research<\/span> as well as providing you a platform to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">develop networks<\/span>. Through studying and developing your personality throughout your degree you begin to see a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">wider view of the world<\/span> which is beneficial in any job after you graduate.<\/p>\n<p><b>Do you have any advice for students looking to enter the charity sector after graduation? What is the best and most relevant experience to gain?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>It is important to keep any options <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">as broad as possible<\/span> and not to close off any opportunities that you don&#8217;t think are of interest to you. The best thing to do is to volunteer for a charity to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">understand what the charity is about<\/span> and whether you like it and know when job opportunities are coming up, whether this is alongside paid employment or being involved in internships.<\/p>\n<p><b>What have been the highlights of your job so far?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Building Macmillan\u2019s profile in NI. In 2016 we have focused on securing a partnership with HSCB and the Department of Health to invest over \u00a37million into specialist nursing posts to improve the care for patients with cancer across NI.<\/p>\n<p><b>What makes your job a dream job?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Everyday is different and what you\u2019re doing makes a difference to real people who are going through difficult times.
