A social media profile is yours alone to share your thoughts and feelings on life, and to post various memes and funny pictures\u2026 right?<\/p>\n<p><b>Wrong<\/b>. According to the Jobvite Recruiter Nation Report, in 2016, <b>43%<\/b> of recruiters looked at their candidates\u2019 Facebook page, with <b>22%<\/b> also checking their Twitter accounts. The least researched social media platform is Snapchat, with only 3% taking a look.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few social media mistakes could affect your chances of being hired:<\/p>\n<p><b>1.\u00a0 Not Having a LinkedIn Account<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A whopping <b>87%<\/b> of recruiters research their candidates\u2019 <b>LinkedIn profiles<\/b>. Accounts are <b>free<\/b>, visit <b>linkedin.com<\/b> and sign up. You can show off all of your important work placements, achievements and interests. You can also connect with other professionals who work in your field of interest and build work relationships.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/theedit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/11\/linkedin-logo.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-104\" alt=\"linkedin-logo\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/theedit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/11\/linkedin-logo-300x168.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>2.\u00a0 Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar Mistakes<\/b><\/p>\n<p>On social media accounts, 72% of recruiters view <b>typos<\/b> negatively.<\/p>\n<p>You can edit information on LinkedIn if you\u2019ve made a spelling mistake, but if you\u2019re sending a Tweet, you might want to read it once or twice before sending. Almost half of recruiters (<b>47%<\/b>) view photos of alcohol consumption negatively on social media. <b>60%<\/b> also hated <b>oversharing<\/b>.\u00a0 So, try not to upload any photos you\u2019d be embarrassed by the morning after. If you wouldn\u2019t tell your granny, don\u2019t tell the internet.
