After what was a tough year for all our students the morale in this competition was so high, with top class ideas coming in and over 70 applications received. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsored by Ormeau Business Park, QUB students entered their best business ideas into the competition aspiring to secure the top prizes in two categories \u201cMost innovative business idea\u201d and \u201cBest overall idea\u201d. \u00a0The event hosted by MC Alastair Cameron included judging from previous WTBI winners, faculty staff and business professionals from Invest NI, Belfast Enterprise Academy and EIT Food. A striking highlight from the event was the wonderful speech the students received from our guest speaker Eleanor McEvoy, a fantastic entrepreneur and previous Dragon on RTE\u2019s Dragons\u2019 Den!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a tough choice from all the great business ideas presented, the 9 overall category winners, each receiving \u00a3200 to pursue their idea are as follows: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBest Green Idea\u201d &#8211; Ronan O\u2019Connell&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBest Business Idea for Global Marketplace\u201d \u2013 Hannah Keenan &amp; Team&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBest Idea from an International Student\u201d \u2013 Lauren Wong &amp; Team&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBest Idea from AHSS\u201d- Alena Romanovskaya&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBest Idea from EPS\u201d &#8211; Chris Miskelly&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBest Idea from MHS\u201d \u2013 Anastasia Perysinakis&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBest Idea from a Postgrad Student\u201d- John Smith &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBest Social Enterprise Idea\u201d &#8211; Michelle Ryan&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBest use of technology\u201d \u2013 Ryan Rafferty &amp; team&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The day\u2019s top prizes of \u00a3500 each went to Conor Morrow for \u201cMost Innovative Idea\u201d with his software to improve the operational efficiency of ground handling activities at airports. &nbsp;The \u201cBest overall business Idea\u201d went to Chris Miskelly with his Adaptable prosthetic limb. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a great competition in highlighting the innovation, originality and creativity of our QUB students and although the year didn\u2019t go as planned, the calibre of ideas presented was second to none!\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our annual \u2018What\u2019s the Big Idea?\u2019 competition was held virtually for the first time ever this year, live streamed from the Accidental Theatre on Wednesday 2nd of December 2020.
