Queen\u2019s Students\u2019 Union Presents the Next Generation of\nFemale Entrepreneurs\u2026<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Queen\u2019s Students\u2019 Union\u2019s eighth annual Innovateher Programme culminated in a recent competition final which saw 22 females pitching their ideas for a bid of a \u00a31,000 prize pot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme, sponsored by PWC, encourages female students to think entrepreneurially by creating original ideas and concepts for new products, services or markets.  This year attracted over 50 applications and saw 22 participants competing for the award titles and cash prizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the course of the programme\nthe group of budding female entrepreneurs covered a wide range of topics including;\nidea generation, marketing, leadership, finances and pitching.  They also had the privilege of hearing from inspirational\nfemales such as Orla Smyth, Founder of\nKaffeO<\/em>, Jude Henderson, Co-Founder of\nOutside In<\/em> and Camilla Long, Co-Founder\nof Bespoke Communications. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In completion of the\nprogramme, each participant presented to their idea to a Judging Panel of five well respected female entrepreneurs\nwhich included: Roseann Kelly, Women in\nBusiness<\/em>; Louise Black, PWC<\/em>;\nDeirdre Fitzpatrick, Fitzpatrick\nAssociates<\/em>; Sinead Henry, QUBSU Welfare\nOfficer<\/em> and Majella Barkley, Innovation\nFactory.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end it was Muir\u00edosa Duggan, Food Quality, Safety\nand Nutrition Student, who overcame the competition to walk away with \u00a3250 for the\n\u2018Most Innovative Idea\u2019.  Muir\u00edosa\u2019s\nbusiness, entitled \u2018Emunchies\u2019, aimed to turn the phrase \u201cemotional eating\u201d\ninto a positive with the creation of mood bars such as, \u2018Pineapple-pick me up\u2019,\n\u2018Ginger Aid\u2019 and \u2018Cool Mint, Calm and Concentrated\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernadette Henry, Economics and Finance Student, won\nthe \u2018Judges Choice\u2019 Award with her idea \u2018Gym Buddies\u2019, an app that enabled\nusers to connect with like-minded people who shared their passion for health\nand fitness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, Megan Rossiter picked up \u00a3200 for her Business\nModel Canvas and Amy Parke\u2019s team pitch won \u2018Best Group Pitch\u2019, securing the\njudges attention by their use of videos, props, samples, costumes and even a\nshort sketch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roseann Kelly, Women in Business NI Ltd said, \u201cThe quality and confidence of all the participants was highly impressive and a testament to the learnings on the Innovateher Programme. It\u2019s an excellent source of support and encouragement to help the participants see their innovative ideas through to fruition.
