You might be worried it\u2019ll be detected in your assignments, or that it could land you in trouble. The reality is: when used the right way, AI can be a really useful study assistant \u2014 but it\u2019s not a shortcut for doing the work yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u26a0\ufe0f <strong>Most important rule:<\/strong> always check your <strong>School\u2019s guidance<\/strong> on AI use in assignments. Here are a few you might hear about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude<\/strong> \u2192 general chatbots for brainstorming, explanations, and summaries. Great for speed, but they can sometimes make mistakes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Copilot (Microsoft)<\/strong> \u2192 free for all QUB students. Works inside Word, PowerPoint, and Edge. Best used for checking your own writing, condensing lecture notes, or making study guides.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Think of them like different types of calculators \u2014 each useful in its own way, but only if you know when and how to use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 What AI is good at<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Summarising lecture slides, readings, or notes into bullet points.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Re-phrasing your draft to make it clearer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spotting grammar and punctuation issues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helping you plan tasks or timelines for assignments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creating quick study recaps, slides, or flashcards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u274c What AI isn\u2019t good at<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Guaranteeing accuracy \u2014 always fact-check.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Giving reliable references (sometimes it invents them).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understanding context or nuance like a human tutor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>AI can speed things up, but you still need to think critically, check facts, and make it your own.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udee0\ufe0f AI as Assistive Technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At QUB, we encourage students to see AI as a kind of <strong>Assistive Technology (AT)<\/strong>.
