Engaging NI Health and Social Care with our project

We are thrilled to share a quick update on some of the external collaborative work our team has been involved in recently!

On Monday, 15th June, our very own Jane Lugea (QUB) was invited to a co-design workshop at the Burnavon Arts & Cultural Centre in Cookstown. The focus of the workshop was to contribute to the latest version of the Dementia Learning and Development Framework—a vital resource used to train all Health and Social Care (HSC) staff and students across Northern Ireland about dementia.

The event was organized on behalf of Northern Ireland’s Department of Health Strategic Planning and Performance Group (SPPG) by an incredible team:

  • Dr. Christine Brown (Queen’s University Belfast)
  • Dr. Deirdre Harkin (Ulster University)
  • Rhonda Mullan (Social Care Lead for Older People, Physical Disability & Sensory Impairment)

A Fantastic Free Resource for Everyone

During the workshop, the organizers shared a fantastic new online training resource informed by the framework. While designed for healthcare professionals, this resource is fully accessible and incredibly useful to those outside of the HSC as well.

You can access it directly here:

On the Still reading project, we would recommend this to anyone who is knew to working or engaging with people with dementia.

Thank you to the organizers for hosting such a collaborative and forward-thinking workshop!

My Home Life Celebration Day 2026

On 29 June 2026, Jane was invited to host a stand at the My Home Life Celebration Day 2026 at University of Ulster, Belfast City campus.

Dr Lugea was there to promote Shared Reading as a meaningful, low-cost activity that can be implemented in care homes to facilitate the high standards of care that the MHL Leadership Support Programme promotes. She shared the co-designed resource pack with the care home leaders at the event.

This special event is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise Care Home Leader’s achievements and contributions but also looks at the significant impact of the MHL Leadership Support Programme on the leaders themselves, their residents, relatives and staff.

Celebration Day enables and positively encourages the sharing of experiences, learning, quality improvement and best practice and promotes and sustains MHL’s beliefs and values in individual care homes, the wider care home community and the wider health and social care system.

The My Home Life Celebration Day 2026 will be taking place on Tuesday 30th June 2026 on Belfast Campus, Ulster University, York Street, Belfast, BT15 1ED (10.00 am – 4.00 pm).
