Library Services is delighted to host the Conflict Textiles exhibition in the McClay Library. The exhibition was launched on the 24th of March 2021 and coincided with the\u202fInternational Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims. Roberta Bacic, Prof Brandon Hamber, Dr Cheryl Lawther, Prof Kieran McEvoy and Dr Lauren Dempster contributed to the launch.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition was launched on the 24th of March 2021 and coincided with the\u202fInternational Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims. Roberta Bacic, Prof Brandon Hamber, Dr Cheryl Lawther, Prof Kieran McEvoy and Dr Lauren Dempster contributed to the launch.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This collaboration between\u202fConflict Textiles<\/a>\u202fand the\u202fSchool of Law, Queen\u2019s University Belfast<\/a>\u202fdeveloped from connections forged through the\u202fFollowing the footsteps of the disappeared exhibition<\/a>\u202f(August 2020 – August 2021). It is a joint venture between\u202fQueen\u2019s University Belfast\u2019s Human Rights Centre<\/a>\u202fand the\u202fSenator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Justice and Security<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The four textiles chosen to feature in the exhibition speak to themes and issues of relevance to staff and students across both the Human Rights Centre and the Mitchell Institute.\u202fD\u00eda de Visita<\/a>\u202fdepicts a political prisoner greeting his family on visiting day in a Chilean prison during the Pinochet dictatorship.\u202fCentro de Torturas Cuatro Alamos<\/a>\u202falso originates from Chile. This arpillera shows an individual being tortured during the dictatorship.\u202fShannonwatch<\/a>\u202fbrings the issue of extraordinary rendition to the fore \u2013 highlighting the link between rendition and Shannon airport in the west of Ireland.\u202fDigital Death<\/a>\u202fportrays drone warfare and the impact of the use of drones on civilians. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Exhibition is available to view in the exhibition area of the ground floor of the McClay Library. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the Library is currently restricted to Queen\u2019s staff and students.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
