{"id":7843,"date":"2021-06-18T09:00:17","date_gmt":"2021-06-18T08:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qpol.qub.ac.uk\/?p=7843"},"modified":"2021-06-18T09:00:17","modified_gmt":"2021-06-18T08:00:17","slug":"feminist-activism-and-the-politics-of-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/qpol\/feminist-activism-and-the-politics-of-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Feminist Activism and the Politics of Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A research project carried out by the authors as part of the Centre for Gender in Politics sought to investigate the impact of the crisis engendered by the Covid-19 pandemic on feminist activism and gender equality more broadly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drawing on the experiences and knowledge of feminist and LGBTQ+ activists in Northern Ireland through focus groups, we detail the exacerbation of inequalities and ongoing challenges to the realisation of meaningful rights, inclusion and gender justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also trace the strategies developed by organisers to sustain collective activism in the complex political and economic environment in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We join feminist and LGBTQ+ activists in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.communities-ni.gov.uk\/system\/files\/publications\/communities\/dfc-social-inclusion-strategy-gender-expert-advisory-panel-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northern Ireland<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/warwick.ac.uk\/fac\/soc\/law\/research\/projects\/feminist-recovery-plan\/Resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">globally<\/a>&nbsp;in demanding that gender-sensitive analysis and policymaking must be a priority as we plan for recovery, rebuilding, and transformation post-Covid and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can read the policy brief <a href=\"https:\/\/centreforgenderorg.files.wordpress.com\/2021\/06\/cgp_policy-brief.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by clicking here.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Authors:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pure.qub.ac.uk\/en\/persons\/maria-adriana-deiana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Maria-Adriana Deiana<\/a>&nbsp;and <a href=\"https:\/\/pure.qub.ac.uk\/en\/persons\/jamie-hagen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Jamie Hagen<\/a> are&nbsp;Co-Directors of the Centre for Gender in Politics and Lecturers in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics.&nbsp;
