HAPPY YEAR OF THE RABBIT TO EVERYONE
Chinese Movie Night hosted by QISS
A romantic Chinese New Year comedy about the three Shang brothers. Eldest brother Shang Moon is a philandering businessman who treats his hideous yet hard-working wife like dirt. Middle brother Shang Foon is a disc jockey/playboy who tries to score with as many girls as possible. Youngest brother Shang So is an obviously gay dance instructor. Moon soon gets the tables turned on him as his wife leaves to become a glamorous karaoke hostess, and Foon gets into a bizarre relationship with a fan so obsessed with movies that she constantly acts out characters on dates, until he suddenly becomes temporarily mentally ill. And So is continually at odds with obvious butch lesbian family cousin. Hilarity ensues.
On Thursday, 16th December, QISS is proudly hosting for the first time a Christmas movie evening. The title is ”A Christmas Carol” (2009) with Jim Carrey on the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. 7:00 pm at The Space, Room 2.
A 2009 film adaptation of Charles Dickens’ 1843 story of the same name. An animated retelling of the classic novel about a Victorian-era collector taken on a journey of self-redemption, courtesy of several mysterious Christmas spirits.
Spoken language in the movie is English just sit back and enjoy the Christmas mood!
As usual you are welcome to bring along other international students and non-student friends, flatmates, family etc. Light refreshments and nibbles will be provided.
If you are stucked in Belfast this Christmas, we have something for you—potluck + karaoke party!
Following the success of last year’s Potluck Parties, QISS is back co-hosting the biggest event for this festive season with PGSA, SASS and Community Youth Workers: Christmas Potluck-Karaoke Party!!!
We had loads of fun at the previous potluck parties testing dishes from other countries, making new acquaintances and having fun singing karaoke. So, whether you are a local or non-local student, here is your chance to introduce your country’s dish – any dish – to share with others and have fun singing karaoke! We will only be serving non-alcoholic drinks.
Date: Sunday, 19th December 2010
Venue: SPACE – STUDENT UNION
Merry Christmas to you all!!!
Best wishes from QISS
As a debriefing, Queens International Student is an organization set up in 2009 by international students in Queens University Belfast as a liaison and connecting platform for international students studying in Queens. By exchanging views and gathering force, we hope to improve our understanding of history, culture and of each other.
At the centre of our activities are international student meetings we have several times per year. Included in these meetings are further gatherings or excursions or any great parties to enjoy!
These meetings are ideal places to meet new people with same concerns as international students, get international contacts and explore other culture and background. Besides these meetings, QISS hopes to have more other activities and gatherings.
So, you might be wondering, what does this blog function as?
1. We, the administrators, hope that this blog will act as a place where QISS reports come in and everyone has a chance to view at it. Anyone can access the blog to get a glimpse of what the QISS was all about, past and present and future. Some activity pictures can also be placed in the blog to enhance the post.
2. Likewise, we also hope that this blog will also be a place where all the prospective international students to learn something about Queens, Belfast, or even studying in UK in general.
3. This blog would hopefully also function as a place where you get the latest updates on QISS. There will be a small column of “updates” on the left side of the blog where you can view the latest updates and perhaps, announcements in QISS. Equally important, this place can also be the place where you just hang out with your fellow international friends, read some useful (or wacky) posts, posts a few comments, and to kill time.
Contributions from everyone would be crucial to keep this blog on and going and exciting.
See you guys around and have a nice day.
on behalf of QISS blog’s administrators
