{"id":5526,"date":"2019-02-04T12:34:37","date_gmt":"2019-02-04T12:34:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/library\/?p=5526"},"modified":"2019-02-04T12:34:37","modified_gmt":"2019-02-04T12:34:37","slug":"plan-s-making-open-access-a-reality-by-2020-feedback-invited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/library\/2019\/02\/04\/plan-s-making-open-access-a-reality-by-2020-feedback-invited\/","title":{"rendered":"Plan S: Making Open Access a Reality by 2020 \u2013 feedback invited"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In September 2018 an open access initiative (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coalition-s.org\/\">Plan S<\/a>) was launched by an international consortium of research funders (Coalition S), including UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).<\/p>\n<p>Plan S requires that, from 2020, \u201cscientific publications that result from research funded by public grants must be published in compliant Open Access journals or platforms\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Plan S contains 10 key<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coalition-s.org\/10-principles\/\"> principles<\/a>, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Authors retain copyright of their publication with no restrictions. All publications must be published under an open licence, preferably the Creative Commons Attribution Licence CC BY.<\/li>\n<li>Where applicable, Open Access publication fees are covered by the Funders or universities, not by individual researchers; it is acknowledged that all scientists should be able to publish their work Open Access even if their institutions have limited means;<\/li>\n<li>In case such high quality Open Access journals or platforms do not yet exist, the Funders will, in a coordinated way, provide incentives to establish and support them when appropriate; support will also be provided for Open Access infrastructures where necessary;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Open Access Team would welcome feedback or comment on Plan S and its implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Please could all feedback be emailed to <a href=\"mailto:openaccess@qub.ac.uk\">openaccess@qub.ac.uk<\/a> by Wednesday 6<sup>th<\/sup> February.<\/p>\n<p>The Library will be submitting its response to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coalition-s.org\/\"> Plan S <\/a>on Friday 8<sup>th<\/sup> February.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In September 2018 an open access initiative (Plan S) was launched by an international consortium of research funders (Coalition S), including UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
