This message gives a brief update on the new Library before it actually opens on 7th<\/sup> September 2009.<\/p>\n

Inside the new Library<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is now possible to get a fairly good idea of what the new Library will be like by going to our Inside the new Library<\/a> page.\u00a0Floor plans showing the general layout of the building are available along with information about the longer opening hours. There are details about the facilities which will be on offer, many of them under one roof for the first time.<\/p>\n

Request Service<\/strong><\/p>\n

Most of stock will be transferred to the new building during June and July. However, the items which were held in the Science Library’s store were moved to the new library a couple of months ago. Since then a request service for this material has been operating very successfully. This request service will be extended to include the material held in the Science Library and the Main Library when access to books and journals has to be restricted to facilitate the move. \u00a0However, anyone wishing to consult Special Collections material should contact the staff in Special Collections direct at specialcollections@qub.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Other support services<\/strong><\/p>\n

The electronic journals, electronic books and databases as well as the inter-library loans service will continue to operate as usual. In addition, from now until the new library opens, all staff, students and associate members may borrow up to twice their normal loan limit and the due date for normal loan items has been extended until 7th<\/sup> September. For the additional convenience of library users, books may be returned to any branch of the library during the summer months.<\/p>\n

University of Ulster Library management have generously agreed to allow Queen’s staff and students access to their library facilities, without formality and on a reference only basis, throughout the period of the move.<\/p>\n

Saturday opening<\/strong><\/p>\n

We will continue to provide a library service on Saturdays throughout the summer. From the end of term the Main Library will be open as usual on Saturday mornings. However, from 11th<\/sup> July the service for all library users, including associate members, will operate out of the Seamus Heaney Library.

As in previous years, extended evening opening will commence at the beginning of August with the Seamus Heaney Library remaining open until 9.00pm, Monday to Thursday, every week until the new library become fully operational in early September.<\/p>\n
