{"id":1245,"date":"2011-08-10T14:38:26","date_gmt":"2011-08-10T13:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/library\/?p=1245"},"modified":"2011-08-10T14:38:26","modified_gmt":"2011-08-10T13:38:26","slug":"new-features-in-web-of-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/library\/2011\/08\/10\/new-features-in-web-of-science\/","title":{"rendered":"New features in Web of Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest version of the Web of Science has some new features that should make it easier for users to find relevant articles.\u00a0 For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All terms are now searched in the Topic field \u2013 there are no \u2018stop\u2019 words (the older version had a list of \u2018stop\u2019 words which were ignored by the search engine).<\/li>\n<li>The new \u2018lemmatization\u2019 feature will automatically search for all variations of a word, such as plurals and verb tenses eg if you type in \u2018run\u2019, it will also search for \u2018runs\u2019, \u2018running\u2019 and \u2018ran\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Both British and US spelling variations are automatically included in your search eg typing in \u2018behaviour\u2019 will also pick up references with the US spelling \u2018behavior\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>The truncation feature has been extended to include left-hand truncation.\u00a0 This means that typing \u2018*saccharide\u2019 will search for any words which have letters before the word stem eg \u2018monosaccharide\u2019, \u2018polysaccharide\u2019 etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Another useful new feature is the NEAR\/x operator.
