We are recruiting a small number of student volunteers to work in the McClay Library at the beginning of the next academic year.

What is a Library Ambassador ?

As a Library Ambassador your role would be to help other students who are new to the University. For example: –

*    Helping them to use the self service facilities

*    Giving them a guided tour of the building

*   Showing them how to locate resources

*    Explaining how to photocopy and print

*    Providing roving, practical support and help

*    Being an additional point of contact for basic enquiries

Who can apply ?             

Queen’s students who will be re-enrolling for the 2014-15 academic year

+       Available to attend several Library Ambassador training sessions in June and September.

+       Willing to work for 6 hours per week for three weeks from 22 September till 10 October 2014.

 How to apply …

There is no formal application form. Just send an A4 page as an email attachment to the library@qub.ac.uk with “Library Ambassador Volunteer” in the subject heading.

Include the following information: –

1.      Your name, student number and Queen’s email address.

2.      What you are studying and at what level.

3.      An outline of any relevant experience or aptitude.

4.      The reasons why you want to work as a volunteer in the Library.

5.      A summary of what you could contribute if selected.

The closing date for applications is Friday 4th April 2014.

 Who will be selected ?   

On the basis of this application a small number of students will be invited for an informal chat a few weeks after the closing date.

It will be a chance for you to decide if you are interested in committing, and for us to decide if you would be suitable.

It will also be an opportunity for you to bring forward ideas for supporting other students in their use of library services and facilities.

This is voluntary work so it is unpaid.

You may be able to use this experience to contribute towards the Degree Plus Award (Category B).
