New Library Update

Preparations for the move to the new Library remain fully on course and this message provides some further details on the support services which are planned. Stock will be unavailable whilst in transit so a number of measures are being introduced to minimise any inconvenience.

Longer Loans (Main and Science Library Books)
The loan period for books borrowed from the Main and Science Libraries will be extended during the move.

  • Staff and research postgraduates
Books borrowed from 19th March 2009 will be due for return on 7th September 2009.
  • Taught postgraduates, undergraduates and other members
Books borrowed from 14th May 2009 will be due for return on 7th September 2009.

It will be still possible to reserve books and all items will be subject to recall after one week if required by another reader.

Increased Loan Limits
From 1st May 2009 until 7th September 2009 all readers will be able to borrow additional material up to twice their normal loan limit.

Returning Books
From 1st June 2009 until 7th September 2009 books may be returned to any branch of the University Library.

Store Request Service
Books in the Library Store (lesser used stock) will be moved to the new Library this week. A Request Service will be introduced on 26th March 2009 to retrieve items which have been moved to the new Library.  It will initially cover the Library Store.

The material covered by the Store Request Service will be listed as normal in the catalogue but will have a red request button beside the location details. Upon clicking the Request button readers will be prompted to enter their staff/student/library card number. The requested item will normally be available by 12 noon the following day (Monday to Friday) in the Seamus Heaney Library where it may be borrowed or consulted.

Short Loan Collections

  • Science  Library
On 17th April 2009, short loan books, offprints and tutorial material held in the Science Library will be transferred to the overnight loan collection in the Seamus Heaney Library.
  • Seamus Heaney Library
During the summer, the loan period for all items will be increased to two weeks.
