{"id":52,"date":"2016-01-30T12:00:30","date_gmt":"2016-01-30T12:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/erin\/?p=52"},"modified":"2022-03-09T21:59:42","modified_gmt":"2022-03-09T21:59:42","slug":"erin-the-acronym-and-logo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/erin\/2016\/01\/30\/erin-the-acronym-and-logo\/","title":{"rendered":"ERIN: THE ACRONYM AND LOGO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>30 January 2016<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/erin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2016\/01\/Erin-Logo-PNG.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-40 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/erin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2016\/01\/Erin-Logo-PNG-300x230.png\" alt=\"Erin Logo PNG\" width=\"300\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/erin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2016\/01\/Erin-Logo-PNG-300x230.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/erin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2016\/01\/Erin-Logo-PNG-768x588.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/erin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2016\/01\/Erin-Logo-PNG-1024x785.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.qub.ac.uk\/erin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2016\/01\/Erin-Logo-PNG.png 1937w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Today\u2019s blog aims to tell our readers about the inspiration behind our project name and logo.\u00a0 The acronym ERIN stands for Europe\u2019s Reception of the Irish Melodies and National Airs.\u00a0 I can think of the titles of three Irish Melodies that include the word \u2018Erin\u2019: \u201cErin, the tear and the smile in thine eyes\u201d; \u201cErin, Oh Erin\u201d and \u201cLet Erin remember the days of old\u201d.\u00a0 The word Erin used in this context is very powerful as it has both nostalgic and nationalistic connotations; themes very central to Moore\u2019s work.\u00a0 When it came to choosing an acronym for our project we felt it was important to come up with something catchy yet suitable to the subject area.\u00a0 The acronym had to be decided at the funding application stage.\u00a0 During the early stages of our project we decided to have a logo designed.\u00a0 We were particularly inspired by Moore\u2019s Egan harp, which is now owned by the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) in Dublin.\u00a0 We were very keen to incorporate an image using or based on this beautiful and ornate harp into our logo.\u00a0 We would like to acknowledge our thanks and appreciation to Siobh\u00e1n Fitzpatrick and the staff at the RIA who very kindly and generously facilitated our request.
