Here we clarify how to interpret the export.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1c64ab5 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"1c64ab5\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-544998d e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"544998d\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-366ceef elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"366ceef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Steps before exporting the Gradebook<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1bbcbaf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1bbcbaf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This blog will highlight what each column in the gradebook export show and how it will be affected by unposted grades or unsubmitted assignments. In order to avoid confusion around these, when extracting the final student grade it is advisable to follow these steps:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list {\"ordered\":true} --><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ensure that all assignments are given a grade (even if zero for unsubmitted) or &#8216;excused&#8217; by adding EX instead of a grade.<\/li>\n<li>Re-format the export as suggested below for ease of use.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>We would also advise that for the first year of using Canvas you track student scores in your own spreadsheet to reconcile the figures coming out of Canvas to what your expectation is in case the set up is incorrect.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>To understand the differences that may arise in the gradebook export if there are unposted or unsubmitted assignments, please read the rest of this blog.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-386ddb9 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"386ddb9\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ce3ae36 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ce3ae36\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Formatting the Export<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fbd9a61 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fbd9a61\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The exported Canvas Gradebook is in CSV format (.csv) and it is advisable to re-format it as an Excel Workbook (.xls). Read only columns contain figures calculated by Canvas depending on a number of variables (discussed below).<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>In those columns showing a number of points possible at the top such as those in the blue box above, the export shows the<strong> POINTS<\/strong> <strong>AWARDED<\/strong> on the assignments rather than a percentage score.
