If this is not changed to \u2018Manual\u2019 then any grades that are input into Canvas will be released to students immediately. To avoid potential confusion and anxiety\u00a0we advise hiding this total. You will then be able to weight the groups using the 'Assignment Groups Weight' function. You should therefore create an assignment group for the assessment you plan to run. Set up Exam\/Class Test<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"collapse-1502\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion-69f41f15073b3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"heading-1502\">\n\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Before you upload the file for your assessment, set it up using the steps below. Once this is done you can securely upload and link the file containing the instructions using the next part of the guidance. By following the steps below you will minimise the risk of any problems with student submissions or with students seeing the assessment before you had intended.<\/p><h2><span style=\"font-size: 28px\">Video Instructions:<\/span><\/h2><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"780\" height=\"439\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eEzBoTcQ0LY?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><h2><span style=\"font-size: 28px\">Written Instructions:<\/span><\/h2><h3><span style=\"font-size: 21px\">Make the instructions clear and unambiguous<\/span><\/h3><p>You should give instructions in a way that leaves no room for ambiguity and makes it clear exactly what students need to do.<\/p><p>Step 1: In your Canvas course, click on \u2018Assignments.\u2019 and then \u2018+Assignment\u2019 to start setting up your assignment.<\/p><p>Step 2: Give your assignment a title and enter all the \u2018instructions to students\u2019 into the into the box (see image below).<\/p><p>Note: Different programs will read and display document formatting differently. Converting documents with complex formatting to PDF can help reduce the conversion errors because of the way PDF handles charts, images, equations and other formatting. Some of the main ones are outlined below.<\/p><p><strong>Points:<\/strong>\u00a0Set to 100<\/p><p><strong>Assignment Group:<\/strong>\u00a0Place your \u2018Assignment\u2019 into the new \u2018Assignment Group\u2019 you created earlier.<\/p><p><strong>Display Grade As:<\/strong>\u00a0Set to \u2018points.\u2019<\/p><p><strong>Submission Type:\u00a0<\/strong>Set to \u2018online and \u2018file upload.\u2019 (Note: Turnitin assignments are\u00a0<strong>NOT<\/strong> recommended)<\/p><p><strong>Group Assignments &amp; Peer Reviews:<\/strong>\u00a0Only tick these options if this applies to your assignment.<\/p><p><strong>Anonymous Grading:<\/strong> The process of anonymous grading in Canvas raises potential issues such as problems in the identification of students with exceptional circumstances, late submissions and feedback to all students. These dates determine when the assignment is visible to students.<\/p><p>Step 1: Choose who you want to set the dates\/times for in the '<strong>Assign To' <\/strong>field<strong>.<\/strong> Select \u2018everyone\u2019 initially to set the dates for the bulk of the class.<\/p><p>Step 2: Set the applicable <strong>Due Date &amp; Time.<\/strong> This is when the \u2018assessment\u2019 will end. Any assignments submitted after this date\/time will be flagged as \u2018late\u2019.<\/p><p>Step 3: Set the<strong> Available From <\/strong>Date\/Time. This is when the portal will open\/the \u2018assessment\u2019 will start.<\/p><p>Step 4: Set the '<strong>Until<\/strong>'\u00a0date &amp; time. This is when the portal will close.
