A full programme of training is available from October to December 2019 to help you to develop and enhance your academic modules in Canvas. Support is also available to those who are preparing their modules in Canvas in ahead of Semester 2 of AY2019/20. A description of the training and support activities available to all staff is outlined below.


 

1. Speedy Grading – Virtual Sessions

Join us for a 45-minute Online Virtual Session, learn how to use Canvas to efficiently manage and mark student submissions in Speedgrader as well as how to manage the release of grades using Gradebook. Discover useful time saving tools and how to use Canvas in a way that works for you.


 

2. Let’s Talk Turnitin – Virtual session

In this 45 minute Online Virtual Session, we look in detail at how best to use the Turnitin integration within Canvas and cover the potential pitfalls you need to be aware of when using Turnitin. 


 

3. Ready, Steady… Canvas! Virtual Sessions

Ready Steady…Canvas! This 45-minute online session will be a step-by-step on the basics of getting a course ready for the first week of the semester during which you can interact and ask questions. We are currently running regular sessions. Register for a session below and you can follow along from the comfort of your office!


 

4. Canvas Assignment Essentials

Now that your module is up and running, the Canvas Assignment Essentials workshop is highly recommended as it takes you through steps required to set up assignments and weighting on your Canvas course, explore Gradebook, Speedgrader and the Turnitin integration within Canvas.

Join us for a 90 minute, highly focused training session where you will learn how to set up assignments and weighting on your Canvas course. The workshop will also look at how the weightings set in assignment groups will feed into the Gradebook to populate the student’s overall grade. Set up an assignment and explore the various submission types within Canvas that allow you to be creative with how you assess students. We will also look at the Turnitin integration within Canvas and see how to set up a submission that will generate a Turnitin similarity report.

5. Canvas Building Blocks

Building Blocks are one-hour, highly focused Canvas training sessions which focus on building skills required to create an engaging course in Canvas.  Face-to-face workshops will also be streamed online so you can join us from the comfort of your office or home. 

Choose from any combination of building blocks to suit your needs. Blocks cover topics ranging from assessment, communication and content building tools with a how-to focus. Come prepared to ask questions, engage in practice activities and discover how to successfully leverage Canvas to enhance and support instructional practices.

6. Canvas for Support Staff

Learn how to use the VLE to manage and support the delivery of academic modules in Canvas. Tools and features which help to facilitate communication of information to students, file and content management, managing assignments, grades and student feedback will also be covered.

This practical workshop will introduce you to the Canvas VLE and give an overview of its functionality, in particular the tools and features that can be used to manage and support the delivery and administration of a Queen’s academic module. Canvas user roles and permissions will also be covered.

7. Guided 1-2-1 Support Sessions

Guided 1-2-1 support sessions are available to Module Conveners or Programme Teams, (subject to availability). Work alongside a Canvas expert to fast-track the course development process.

Consultation sessions are available to Module Conveners at their desks and/or Programme Teams within Schools.
