Meet the Editors

James Kane (Editor-in-Chief)

James is a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Children’s Rights, Queen’s University Belfast. His work on freedom of association has been published in the International Journal of Children’s Rights. He was also a founding member of the Secondary Students’ Union of Northern Ireland (SSUNI). He served as its first Education Officer, and now sits part-time on its board.

Koulla Yiasouma (Editor)

Koulla is an Honorary Professor of Practice at the Centre for Children’s Rights, Queen’s University Belfast. She has been a children’s rights activist for nearly 30 years and has held several roles as an organisational leader and policy advocate during that time. 

Bronagh Byrne (Editor)

Bronagh is a Professor of Disability and Children’s Rights at Queen’s University Belfast where she is also Director of the Centre for Children’s Rights. Bronagh’s research interests include the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She is also interested in the right to inclusive education for young people with disabilities. Bronagh is deaf and has a Hearing Dog called Robyn.
