Shannon McLaughlin

Shannon McLaughlin is a second year PhD student studying agricultural, food and development economics. Her research interests are focusing on the effect of weather and climate shocks, on food security among smallholder farmers in Sub Saharan Africa. She graduated with a B.Sc. Hons in Food Quality, Safety and Nutrition. Shannon participated in the Environmental Leadership Programme 2018/19 and won the award for QUB Green Impact Postgraduate Student Leadership 2018/19, as well as accepting the 2019 QUB SU award Environmental Impact on behalf of the Environmental Leadership Programme. She continues to raise awareness and motivate QUB staff and students to act on climate change and live more a more sustainable life through her work with the Bio Green Team.

Tanisha Waring

Tanisha Waring is a second year PhD student studying environmental and resource economics. Her research currently focuses on public preferences and willingness to pay for carbon capture and storage in the United Kingdom. She graduated from Queen’s in 2017 with a B.Sc. Hons in Geography and from the University of East Anglia in 2018 with an M.Sc. with Merit in Climate Change. She also participated in the Queen’s Environmental Leadership Programme in 2019/2020. Tanisha is passionate about raising awareness of environmental issues and communicating climate science, and continues to engage with the wider community on these issues through her work with the Bio Green Team.

Iain Maguire

Dr Iain Maguire holds a PhD in examining the application of Bio-loggers to assess the Behaviour and Welfare of large herbivores; a M.Sc. with Distinction in Animal Behaviour and Welfare and a B.Sc. with Hons. in Zoology. He joined the School of Biological Sciences Bio Green Team in 2019 and is an advocate for sustainability and the environment. Iain’s passion is reducing waste in all forms, from food waste to finding unique ways to reuse plastics and reduce waste being sent to landfill. He currently maintains the worm farm, while also running his own farm, alongside his father in Country Tyrone.
