The Union’s Orlaigh McIntyre shares a few lesser-spotted delights of the Union with you – and these are just scratching the surface!
Mandela Hall is one of the best venues in the city – in March alone we have had the Kooks, Clean Bandit and Ella Eyre all play here.
You might find a Dragon in the corridor
This year RTE’s Dragons’ Den star Ramona Nicholas has signed up to be a Judge of Enterprise SU’s ‘QUB Dragons’ Den’ so keep an eye out for her having a coffee in Clements or Kreme in between giving students a roasting in the Den.
Our Meal Deal
Cheaper than Boots (£3.29) or Tesco (£3) it includes a Sandwich, wrap, salad or pasta / juice or water / packet of crisps or piece of fruit – £2.89
Queen’s Radio (QR)
QR is Northern Ireland’s only student radio station and it’s based right here in the Union.
Run entirely by students, it provides daily entertainment through music new and old, reviews, news, competitions, interviews, giveaways and quizzes. It also hosts events and has its own blog. It is only one of our over 190 of our Clubs & Societies that they can join.
Red Bull Paper Wings Qualiflyer
The Union hosted one of three regional Qualiflyers for Red Bull’s Paper Wings Competition – students folded and flew their paper planes for a chance to go to the world final in Austria.
We’re always up for a laugh
Queen’s Comedy Club was started in February 1992 by a young Colin Murphy, performing his first ever gig. Peter Kay, Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey, Sean Lock, Ed Byrne and Jason Byrne have all taken to the stage in the past and tickets are just £6.
Last month students got to meet two lovely lab dogs from Guide Dogs NI, when Ushi and Ethan graced us with their furry presence during Student Volunteering Week.
Our Snooker Room
A hidden gem in The Speakeasy with two full sized snooker tables (ever seen a real sized snooker table? They’re massive!), 11 pool tables and a dart board. Games cost £1.
Paint Glow, Foam and UV Parties
We love a good party – so far this year we have had Christmas Jumper, Halloween, UV paint and foam parties –who knows what’s in store for next year!
You could be the President!
The Union is run by students for students. Every year, seven Student Officers, including the President of the Union, are elected to represent the 22,500+ students at Queen’s so you might find yourself leading the Union one day.
