Adding a Journal to Your Article in Pure: Best Practice Guidelines

When creating a record for a journal article in Pure it’s important to link it to a journal. Before creating a new journal entry for your Pure record check to see if the title already exists:

  • In the Pure record Click add journal
  • Make sure the search tab is selected

If multiple entries exist choose the most complete one:

  • this is often, but not always, the first in the list,
  • make sure it has no abbreviated words
  • each word starts with a capital letter, except and, or, of etc.

If the Journal is not in the list then create a new entry.

To create a new entry:

  • In the Pure record Click add Journal
  • Make sure the create new tab is selected

Ulrichsweb is an easy to search source of detailed information on more than 300,000 journals. You can search this database to help you fill in the relevant details.

Complete the Journal title as it appears on the website or in Ulrichsweb:

  • Don’t use abbreviations
  • each word starts with a capital letter, except and, or, of etc.
  • Don’t include any article details into the title
  • Include the ISSNs using the following format – xxxx-xxxx
  • Click on create
