In conjunction with Information Services, we held a lunch time talk on Wave Power on Wednesday 2 September
Dr Bjoern Elsäßer, a Senior Lecturer in Coastal Science and Engineering at the School of Planning Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPACE) was invited to come in to discuss his research.
He is involved in the promotion of the tidal & wave test site at Portaferry, looking at the impact of marine renewable energy devices as well as marine conservation and future development in biofuels.
The talk was very informative with 28 people attended from across the University which was great to see!
The talk was very good with some good questions and answers after. We are way off relying on wave power to sustain us but so too was wind power in that position some 10 years ago! Not only was it interesting to hear how wave power can be harnessed but it was good to know that it is being done here by our staff in Queen’s.
Would you like to host your own environmental event? Or have research which you think people would like to hear about?
